HPC provides an assessment of Care Home Need in support of new development
Inspector; Appeal Decision““The scheme would provide homes to meet the growing need for, and undersupply of, housing for older people for which there is very clear evidence…” ”
The Mercure Hotel comprises a well-known local landmark at the southern gateway to Wetherby. The detailed planning application sought to demolish the dated hotel with redevelopment of the 1.8 hectare site incorporating a food store, care home and 8 senior living homes. The application was ultimately refused by Leeds City Council.
Following appeal by Lidl GB Ltd and Springfield Healthcare Group Ltd an Inquiry took place in October 2024. HPC provided extensive documentary evidence, advising the Inquiry in terms of the level of need for further care home provision – both across the local authority area and locality. This evidence was clearly a consideration in the final decision, the Inspector ultimately allowing the appeal and thereby permitting development by way of Decision dated 22nd November 2024.
