This consultancy instruction from our longstanding client Care UK is representative of the company’s desire to optimise accommodation provision. The Cumberland Care Home in the Cricket Green area of Mitcham, Merton currently comprises a purpose-built 53-bed registered care home for the elderly. With accommodation predating the millennium, Care UK took the decision to future-proof the facility, lodging a detailed planning application to demolish the existing care home and redevelop the site, providing 64-ensuite bedrooms in addition to a range of excellent communal and amenity spaces incorporating a cafĂ©, cinema, hairdressers, lounges and dining areas.
As part of the planning documentation, the HPC Care Home Need Assessment was able to not only illustrate a significant level of outstanding need, a complete lack of recent C2 planning activity but also a recent trend across the Borough which has seen the loss of 5 homes with no new development.
Acknowledging the outstanding need for new provision, detailed planning consent was granted to our client on 17th June 2024.
